In 1946, a US military tribunal in the former Dachau camp tried 61 defendants
for war crimes at the Mauthausen concentration camp. 58 death sentences were given, and 49 people were executed.
In 1947, many more trials relating to the Mauthausen concentration camp took
place in Dachau. 238 people were tried, and 48 of these were sentenced to death.
