The first large-scale SS company, founded in April 1938. Prisoners in the concentration camps had to make building materials for DEST under conditions of forced labour. These materials were needed for the major construction projects in the Third Reich. The quarry operations in the Mauthausen and Gusen concentration camps also belonged to DEST.
